Lewis Du Bois is Notable.
1776 Project
Colonel Lewis Du Bois served with 5th New York Regiment, Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Lowis Du Bois was baptized on 9 September 1744 in Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York, recorded as the son of Elias Du Bois and Susanna Vandenburgh. The witnesses to his baptism were Lowis Du Bois and Jannetje van Vliet, his paternal grandparents. [1]

Lewis Dubois and Allida van Kleek were married in the Reformed Dutch Church of Reyn Beeck (now Red Hook), Dutchess County, New York, on 6 January 1765.[2] They had children baptized in the 1760s at the Poughkeepsie Reformed Church, Dutchess, New York.

During the Revolution, he was an officer. He commanded the Fifth New York Line Regiment and later, a regiment of New York Levies.[3] He corresponded with George Washington.[4] In 1777, he presided over the court martial of the The Marbletown Disaffection of 1777.[5]

He died on 4 March 1824 in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York.[6]

Research Notes

There is some confusion regarding Lewis DuBois. See: Col Lewis duBois 5th Reg NY Confusion. [13] Also Wikipedia profile.[14] See also: Poucher, Dutchess County Men of the Revolutionary Period, Colonel Lewis DuBois - Captain Henry DuBois [15] He is often confused with Lewis Dubois Sr (1727-1802). Poucher also notes a second marriage to Catharine Van de Bogart.[16] His probate papers show a widow named Aubry or maybe Ruby. The signature is extremely difficult to read[17]

He is noted in Henry Livingston's Day Book.[18]

DuBois-3463 and Du Bois-424 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth data. Same death data. One profile has father named Elias and the other has a son named Elias -- good hint that these are the same man.

Spelling variations in names are just spelling variations.

Need some good sources.
